We would like to welcome Dr Laura Parisio-Wood to Highland Hill Veterinary Service! Dr Laura started working for us part-time in September. She is a fabulous equine veterinarian with plenty of experience and our clients and patients love her. While she enjoys all aspects of general equine practice, her specialties include: dentistry, podiatry and sport-horse medicine, and chiropractic work. WELCOME!

Here is some information about her:
Dr. Laura Parisio-Wood grew up in the Hudson Valley Region of New York State. She completed a bachelor's degree in Biology with a minor in Equine Studies from Alfred University in NY, before crossing the pond to receive her veterinary degree from the Royal Veterinary College, in London, England. Upon graduation, she moved back to the Northeast, where she participated in internship programs at Rhinebeck Equine and The New Jersey Equine Clinic in central NJ. Dr.
Parisio truly enjoys all aspects of general equine practice. She has developed a strong interest in dentistry, podiatry and sport horse medicine, particularly rehabilitation. In 2018, she became certified in Equine Veterinary Medical Manipulation (the veterinary equivalent to chiropractic therapy) through the Integrative Veterinary Medical Institute near Ocala FL.  Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Parisio enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, cooking and being outdoors.

Emergency Services Update

3/5/2021

HHVS Clients,

I am excited to announce some changes to our emergency services!

As much as I love my job, my clients, and my patients, I need some time to take care of myself and my family. I have been on call 24/7 for the last 11 years - during holidays, birthdays, blizzards, family events and everything else in between - and I need to take a break.

I have joined forces with a handful of local veterinarians and will be doing a weekend on-call rotation with them. We still have some details to fine tune but this will allow each of us to have some much needed time off.

This rotation will start this weekend on March 5th. Our emergency line will be updated with the on-call veterinarian’s information. If I am not on call I will not be available via text, phone, email, or facebook. I have full confidence in the veterinarians that I will be working with and ask that you do too.

Covid-19 Updates

On a more serious note:

Covid-19 is on our minds.

At the time being we are doing business as usual. We are taking extra precautions though: extra hand washing, wearing personal protective equipment, disinfecting the truck and equipment more often, changing clothes more often during the day, and social distancing from clients as best as possible.

We ask our clients to please reschedule your appointments if: you have recently traveled, are feeling ill, have interacted with someone that has recently traveled or is feeling ill, or if you are a caretaker or interacting with someone that is immunocompromised  or elderly on a regular basis. We also ask that the number of clients at each appointment remain at a minimum. For example if we are vaccinating a farm of 25 horses - all 25 horse owners do not need to be at the appointment - just the farm manager being present is enough to assist Dr Kendyl. Kendyl is also happy to follow-up with horse owners via phone or email to discuss any findings or concerns found at appointments further.

If you have any questions or concerns feel free to reach out to us!

Fall Vaccines 2019

9/9/2019

What we recommend this fall:

West Nile Virus (WNV) & Encephalitis (EEE) Vaccination: Due to the high number of positive mosquito pools locally and positive eee cases this year, we highly recommend EWT/West Nile boosters for all horses this year. Ideally the booster should be given 4-6 months after your spring ewt/wn vaccine appointment. If your horse has not been vaccinated yet this year, please contact us ASAP to get an appointment!

Equine Herpesvirus (EHV) Vaccination: We highly recommend Flu/Rhino boosters for horses at all boarding facilities, horses that are exposed to new horses (frequently and infrequently), and horses that are still showing and traveling.

Fall Fecal Testing: We also recommend testing fecals in October and November for your horse. You are welcome to drop samples off at the office (please call first), or give them to Kendyl at your fall vaccine appointments. When collecting samples: 1) we need FRESH samples, 2) we only need 2ish fecal balls, and 3) place samples in a zip-lock bag with your name and horse name on the bag.

Microchips: Need a microchip to meet the USEF microchip requirements for all hunter/jumper, jumper, and equitation divisions at USEF recognized shows? We have them in stock!

If you are not sure what your animals are due for, feel free to contact us and we will be happy to help you!

Call or text us at 508-923-3422 to schedule your appointments today!

p.s. Keep in mind we will be offering our Winter Dentistry Discount again this year! Get 20% off all dentistry services performed between November 1, 2019 and February 29, 2020.

It’s time to schedule your spring vaccine appointments! If you have showing or traveling deadlines be sure to contact us ASAP so we don't run into any scheduling conflicts.

If you have already set up your spring appointments - thank you!

What Kendyl recommends this year:

Boarding / Show Horse Spring Vaccine Recommendations
(at farms vaccinating 8 or more horses)

Appointment #1: Rabies, Flu/Rhino, Coggins, Fecal
Appointment #2: Strangles
Appointment #3: EWT/WN, Potomac*
There should be at least 3 weeks in between appointments to reduce the risk of adverse reactions.
If 8 or more horses are vaccinated at the same farm and appointment, there is no farm call fee.

Boarding / Show Horse Spring Vaccine Recommendations
(at farms vaccinating 1 to 7 horses)

Appointment #1: Rabies, Flu/Rhino, Coggins, Fecal
Appointment #2: EWT/WN, Strangles, Potomac*
There should be at least 3 weeks in between appointments to reduce the risk of adverse reactions.
If 1 to 7 horses are vaccinated at the same farm and appointment, the farm call will be divided by the number of horse owners.

Backyard / No Travel Horse Spring Vaccine Recommendations
Appointment #1: Rabies, EWT/WN, Coggins, Fecal
For backyard or no travel horses we recommend making your appointment for sometime after May 1st. Exceptions: If your horse has been vaccinated before May 1st in past years, or if you plan on doing fall EWT/WN booster vaccinations.
